Key Features of the Training Program:

  • Based on core elements of the British Columbia Basic Fire Fighter Certification Training Program.
  • Written for the rural volunteer firefighter: This program deals only with volunteer firefighters.
  • Directed towards the novice volunteer firefighter which allows for quick comprehension.
  • The primary and consistent focus of this training program is on firefighter safety. Personal and crew safety is emphasized consistently in both the knowledge and skills content.
  • The Training Program incorporates operational fireground safety into the Standard Operating Guidelines adopted by the specific client.
  • These procedures teach safe firefighting practices which are critical when training volunteers.
  • National Institute for Safety (NIOSH) investigative reports are included in the case studies section of the training program. These reports present the dangers that firefighters may face when not following important risk management safety practices.
  • The material is featured in context using scenario based training, so the student will not only learn the skills, but will know when to apply them in the field. The result is a safer, thinking, volunteer firefighter.
  • The scenario training provides a real-world example of how the learned skills relate to structure fires in single family dwellings and two storey residential structures.
